Developing a thematic approach

I have been fortunate to work in a large number of schools, both as a teacher and as a consultant, and passionately believe that children should be immersed in topics and themes. They need to see the connections between the different areas of learning and then have the opportunity to use all the skills they have been taught to respond to what they learning about.  Topics should be child focused and exciting, to really engage pupils. They must be resourced by the highest quality texts if children are going to have a broad and balanced experience of language.
